A remarkable gathering at Bigbury-on-Sea witnessed the baptism of approximately 170 individuals in the sea, drawing participants from across the nation. The event was orchestrated by Merlin Kraft, the visionary behind the Christian channel BibleLadUK, who initiated it through social media invitations.
Speaking with Premier Christian News, Kraft shared stories of dedication, such as a couple from Leeds who traveled as far as Kingsbridge and embarked on a three-hour trek through fields to reach Bigbury for the baptism.
“There was an extraordinary couple that came from Leeds, and they could only get themselves as far as Kingsbridge, and then they walked the remaining three hours through fields to get to Bigbury to be baptised,” recounted Kraft. He expressed his amazement, saying, “I’m still in disbelief at what I saw at Bigbury Beach at the weekend. God was in it the whole way. All I can say is all glory to God at this point, but what we saw down there was extraordinary. It was amazing.”
This event echoes similar mass baptisms held earlier, including one over the summer where more than 120 people were baptised at Boscombe beach, near Bournemouth. This tradition is becoming a regular occurrence, with 92 baptisms the year before.
Both the Bigbury-on-Sea and Bournemouth gatherings embraced an inter-denominational spirit. The Boscombe event was organized by the BCP Church Collective, a coalition of 14 churches in the Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole area.
Kraft, who describes himself as a devoted follower of Jesus rather than a pastor, attributes the success of BibleLadUK to his candidness about his faith and the channel’s uplifting portrayal of Christianity amidst often bleak news narratives.
