Kentucky Youth Evangelism Event Breaks Attendance Records

In an impressive display of community engagement and faith-driven enthusiasm, the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s Youth Evangelism Summit recently marked a significant milestone with over 1,300 attendees. This annual gathering took place at Hillvue Heights Church in Bowling Green from February 6 to 7, drawing the highest number of participants in recent years.

Organized to empower the younger generation with the Gospel, the summit recorded 1,337 attendees, a substantial increase from 2019’s 199 participants. This steady growth over the years saw 264 in 2020, 828 in 2023, 1,207 in 2024, and 1,253 last year.

Matt Flanagan, the Children & Student Ministry Consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention, expressed gratitude for the event’s expansion. “First, and foremost, we believe the Lord is growing the conference to equip more teenagers to know the Gospel, influence their culture, and go to their communities to reach people,” he shared.

The summit, affectionately known as YES!, featured a blend of mainstage and breakout sessions aimed at enhancing student ministry, youth outreach, and worship. Additionally, it provided resources such as a YES! app with listening guides for various sessions.

Flanagan emphasized the event’s focus on equipping ministry, rather than showcasing “well-known speakers or bands.” He highlighted the importance of student ministry leaders from across Kentucky who share their expertise with churches statewide.

Amid discussions about shifting religious affiliations among younger Americans, Flanagan remarked on the potential for a new kind of spiritual movement. “I believe the Lord is doing a work within both Gen Z and Gen Alpha,” he commented, suggesting a movement of authentic faithfulness and a commitment to Christ’s teachings.

The summit’s mission aligns with the goals of the Kentucky Baptist Convention to support churches with necessary resources. Flanagan noted the trust built with group leaders and the positive response from churches, confident in the event’s content and speaker integrity.

As debates continue about the religious engagement of younger generations, Flanagan holds a hopeful view. “YES! has served churches well by providing meaningful training and equipping for students who desire to live on mission, to be articulate with the Gospel,” he stated, underlining the event’s impact on today’s youth.
