During what seemed like an ordinary Thursday evening church service at Trinity Fellowship Church in Texas, congregants witnessed what they describe as a divine miracle when a man who had died was suddenly restored to life.

Jay Brent was sitting beside his wife Chonda during the service when the unthinkable happened. His wife noticed something was terribly wrong when she glanced at her husband.

“I looked over at him and his gaze was set,” Chonda recalled. “That’s the only way I know how to describe it.”

Congregation responds with prayer

As the pastor called out urgently for medical assistance, fellow church members dropped to their knees and began praying fervently. Chonda herself immediately fell to her knees in front of her husband.

“I just got down on my knees in front of him and started praying,” Chonda said. “That’s the only thing I knew to do. I was just pleading with the Lord not to take him.”

Fortunately, Jarett Warren, a trained medic who happened to be attending the service, responded immediately to the pastor’s call for help. When he reached Jay’s location, the situation was dire.

“At that point, I looked at Jay and knew he wasn’t there,” Jarett recalls. “There’s no palpable pulse. He wasn’t taking any breaths, he wasn’t breathing — he was dead.”

An unexplainable revival

Warren moved Jay’s lifeless body into the church aisle, preparing to administer CPR. However, before he could even begin the life-saving procedure, something extraordinary occurred.

“He just took a deep breath and opened his eyes,” Jarett said.

Since the incident, Jay has undergone numerous medical examinations and tests with various doctors, yet none have been able to provide a medical explanation for what transpired that evening. Warren himself acknowledges that his medical training played no role in Jay’s revival.

“It’s divine intervention,” he said. “It was the Lord at work and I believe in that with all my heart. In fact, that’s the only way I can make it rational.”

A transformed faith

While Jay describes himself as someone who has always maintained his faith, this personal encounter with death and resurrection has profoundly impacted his spiritual life. The experience moved from abstract belief to concrete reality.

“I know He can bring people back from the dead but He brought me back from the dead,” Jay said. “It just blows my socks off.”

One aspect of the experience puzzled Jay: during the time he was deceased, he didn’t witness heaven or experience any visions. He took this question to prayer and believes he received a direct answer.

“He just told me I wasn’t ready to see Heaven in that way,” Jay explained, “that I wouldn’t have wanted to go back even though it wouldn’t be my choice, but he had plenty of Heaven on Earth for me left. I wouldn’t have been able to live my life knowing I left that behind.”
