In a compelling address during his inauguration, President Donald Trump attributed his survival from an assassination attempt to divine intervention, declaring his mission to lead the United States into a “golden age.”

At the inauguration ceremony inside the United States Capitol Rotunda, Trump reflected on the incident from July 13, 2024, when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at him, injuring his right ear before Crooks was taken down by a Secret Service agent.

Trump stated, “The journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one. Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom, and indeed, to take my life.”

“An assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear, but I felt then and believe even more so now that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again,” he continued.

Declaring the inauguration as “liberation day,” Trump reassured Americans that they would remain committed to their country, Constitution, and God. He announced, “the golden age of America begins right now,” promising that the nation will regain respect worldwide.

“We will be the envy of every nation and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer,” Trump affirmed. “I will, very simply, put America first.”

President Trump outlined plans to sign executive orders addressing illegal immigration, inflation control, and energy issues by leveraging the country’s natural gas reserves.

He also mentioned initiatives like the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, dismantling the “Green New Deal,” and ending the “weaponizing” of the federal government against “political opponents.”

Further, Trump vowed to remove DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) programming and stated the government would recognize “two genders, male and female,” aiming for a society based on merit.

He expressed gratitude towards the black and Hispanic communities and, in honour of Martin Luther King Jr, committed to making King’s dream a reality.

This inauguration marked the first indoor event since 1985 due to cold weather, with festivities including a performance of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Julia Ward Howe.

On the eve of his swearing-in, Trump hosted a rally at Washington, DC’s Capital One Arena, where he pledged swift action to resolve national crises.

He promised, “By the time the sun sets tomorrow evening, the invasion of our borders will have come to a halt, and all the illegal border trespassers will, in some form or another, be on their way back home.”

Trump also assured attendees of economic reforms, stating plans to cut taxes, control inflation, boost wages, and bring back factories to the USA. He emphasized educational reforms to teach patriotism and respect for American history, while excluding critical race theory and transgender topics from schools.
