A young man whose voice was predicted to remain silent forever is now using that very voice to inspire millions. Kaleb Carson’s journey from a toddler with a grim cancer diagnosis to a worship singer performing on stages nationwide is a testament to faith, perseverance, and divine purpose.
At just two years old, Kaleb’s mother noticed alarming symptoms—her son appeared pale and ill. A hospital visit delivered devastating news: Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Medical professionals gave the toddler only a 10% survival rate. The challenges multiplied when a surgical complication during treatment damaged Kaleb’s vocal cord, leading doctors to inform his family that he would never be able to speak.
From dire prognosis to divine calling
Kaleb’s family responded to the dire circumstances with prayer. Against all odds, he entered full remission in 2004. Around the age of eight, something remarkable happened—Kaleb experienced a vision of himself performing on stage. He began immersing himself in Whitney Houston videos at the computer, studying her technique and style.
The child who was supposed to remain voiceless started practicing singing daily by age nine. By the time he turned twelve, Kaleb had a clear conviction: this was his God-given calling.
A chance encounter leads to collaboration
Anthony Evans first crossed paths with Kaleb at a writing camp, completely unaware of the young man’s extraordinary background. Kaleb’s mother approached Evans with a simple but confident statement: “I think my son can do what you’re needing.”
Two and a half years after their initial meeting, during a tour, Evans gathered his team and asked everyone to share something he didn’t know about them. That’s when Kaleb revealed his story. Evans found himself unable to stop contemplating “the times in all of our lives where we feel like we’re at our 10%.”
A song born from testimony
The conversation sparked creative inspiration. Evans, Kaleb, and Danielle Munizzi gathered around Evans’s kitchen table and wrote ‘You’re Not Finished,’ which was released in 2024. The song takes its foundation from Philippians 1:6, which speaks to God’s faithfulness in completing the work He begins in believers’ lives.
Evans has witnessed powerful reactions from audiences when they learn the identity of the young vocalist—the same child given almost no chance of survival, now singing with strength and clarity. “God pulled me out of that situation, and this song comes from that real-life experience,” Kaleb explains.
The collaboration between Carson and Evans serves as a living reminder that what appears impossible from a human perspective remains entirely possible for God, and that seemingly insurmountable odds don’t determine our ultimate destiny.
