Record-breaking Bible Engagement on YouVersion During Easter
As digital platforms continue to shape religious practices, YouVersion, the creator of the globally favored Bible app, has reported unprecedented levels of scripture interaction during Easter.
With installations on over a billion devices, YouVersion’s Bible app offers scripture in more than 2,400 languages. This Easter, the app recorded an all-time high with an average of 18.7 million daily users engaging with the Bible during Holy Week. On Easter Sunday, the engagement surged to 21.6 million, marking a milestone for the company.
In the UK, the engagement with the Bible app increased by 6.5% throughout Holy Week. Notably, YouVersion’s top ten days for Bible engagement have all occurred in the year 2026, indicating a growing interest in the app.
Contrary to the popular belief that John 3:16 is the most favored verse among Christians, YouVersion’s latest data reveals otherwise. During last year’s Holy Week in the UK, John 16:33 emerged as the most popular verse: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
This year, the verse that captured the most attention was Matthew 28:6: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.” Throughout the previous year, Isaiah 41:10 was the most engaged verse globally: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Bobby Gruenewald, founder and CEO of YouVersion, shared insights on this surge in interest: “Over the last several months, worldwide interest in the Bible has continued to increase. It’s encouraging to see people searching for and consistently coming back to Scripture for guidance, encouragement and answers.
“We especially see this at Easter where more people are either reflecting on their faith or trying to understand who Jesus was for themselves. Seeing people around the world encounter Scripture, many for the first time, is exactly why we do this.”
