Pastor John MacArthur Dispels Health Rumors, Eyes Return to the Pulpit
In a bold response to circulating rumors about his health, Pastor John MacArthur, aged 85, has announced his eagerness to resume preaching at Grace Community Church. The past year has been challenging due to significant health issues, but MacArthur is resolute in his commitment to return.

In a video shared on social media, MacArthur humorously invoked Mark Twain, saying, “The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” Known for his influential theological work, MacArthur is eager to return to his ministry duties.

MacArthur reassured followers, “I feel fine. I’m not ill at all. My heart is working well. My lungs are working well. There’s nothing terminal that I’m experiencing. There’s no heart failure.” He highlighted the success of recent medical procedures, stating, “My heart is probably stronger now than it’s been in the last decade of my life.”
This recovery journey began in January 2023 when MacArthur was hospitalized with breathing difficulties. Since then, he has undergone three heart surgeries and a lung operation, which included a seven-week hospital stay.
He explained, “The issue for me was when they were trying to regulate everything because I had a lung surgery and three heart procedures, they put me in the hospital.” Despite these setbacks, MacArthur remains optimistic, expressing, “I feel great. I’m ready to come roaring back into the public and pick up my ministry again.”
While no specific timeline for his return was provided, MacArthur previously made an appearance at Grace Community Church in November, where he candidly discussed his health challenges. He expressed gratitude, saying, “I’m still here and thankful to the Lord for that,” and emphasized the importance of faith, sharing, “I’m just thankful I see the good and gracious and kind and providential hand of God in every vicissitude in my life.”
Following his hospital discharge in February, MacArthur’s recovery was closely monitored by medical teams. Phil Johnson, the executive director of Grace to You, confirmed MacArthur’s steady recovery at home, correcting earlier misinformation about his release.
MacArthur’s absence from the annual Shepherds Conference in March was notable. Reflecting on his life, he remarked, “I realize I’m on the last lap. That takes on a new meaning when you know you’re on the short end of the candle.” Despite this, he expressed gratitude for his ministry accomplishments over the years.
With a career spanning over five decades, MacArthur has established himself as a prolific pastor, author, and broadcaster. His Grace to You ministry reaches millions through various media, cementing his legacy among Evangelicals.
