Church Heroes: How Two Brave Men Averted a Tragedy in Michigan
In a remarkable display of courage, members of the CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne, Michigan, intervened to thwart a mass shooting attempt during Sunday worship. The quick thinking and bravery of Deacon Richard Pryor and security team member Ron Amann averted what could have been a devastating tragedy.

The incident unfolded when 31-year-old Brian Browning arrived at the church armed with an AR-15-style rifle and 500 rounds of ammunition. His erratic behavior was reported to have begun with him driving a silver SUV before approaching the church entrance in camouflage and tactical gear.
Deacon Richard Pryor, noticing the suspicious individual, acted swiftly by driving his truck to intercept Browning, providing the church’s armed security team with the precious seconds needed to respond. This heroic act, however, resulted in his truck being totaled, as it absorbed multiple gunshots.
A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched, raising over $24,000 to assist Pryor and his family in obtaining a new vehicle.
Meanwhile, Ron Amann, a seasoned member of the church’s security team, was shot in the leg during the incident. Despite his injury, his prior training at Peacemakers Shooting Range proved invaluable. A separate GoFundMe effort has raised more than $38,000 to cover his medical and recovery expenses.
“Ron’s tibia was shattered and required extensive surgery,” shared Kate Dunphy, the organizer of Amann’s fundraising effort. “God spared Ron’s life and was mighty in His protection.”
The church community has rallied around these heroes, celebrating their courage and attributing the prevention of further harm to their decisive actions. Pastor Bobby Kelly Jr. recounted his past interactions with Browning, who had once approached him for help, claiming to be a prophet seeking guidance on religious matters.
Witness Dustin Fuoco, who observed the events unfold, emphasized Pryor’s humility, stating, “He would not want to be called a hero. He is one of the most humble guys I’ve ever seen.”
These events have not only highlighted the bravery of individuals like Pryor and Amann but also underscored the importance of vigilance and preparedness in places of worship.
