Evangelical Alliance Introduces Updated Resources for South Asian Communities

In a move to engage South Asian communities with the Christian faith, the Evangelical Alliance (EA) has unveiled an enhanced set of resources. Aimed at individuals from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, or Muslim backgrounds, these resources are designed to address common questions and cultural perspectives.

The initiative, titled “Discovering Jesus,” originally launched in 2014, has been updated to reflect today’s diverse cultural landscape. Rani Joshi, who serves as the South Asian Forum coordinator and the project lead, shared her personal connection to the project, emphasizing its significance.

“As a young South Asian girl, I wasn’t sure the Christian faith included someone who looked like me,” Joshi remarked. “That’s why Discovering Jesus feels so timely, as we explore faith, identity and culture. As I prayed about this project, I sensed God whisper, ‘invite them to the wedding banquet’ (Revelation 19:9).

“This isn’t just another resource, it’s an invitation for those of Asian heritage to answer the question Jesus asks, ‘Who do you say I am?’”

The eight-week course is structured to facilitate discussions around the life and teachings of Jesus, providing a space where non-Christians can explore core Christian beliefs in a welcoming and informal setting.

An apologetic approach underpins the program, tackling questions such as whether Christianity is a “Western Religion.”

Expressing enthusiasm for the program’s potential impact, Gavin Calver, CEO of the EA, stated, “I am so excited about the launch of Discovering Jesus and am praying for this course to have a huge impact in the days ahead. It is so timely and shares the gospel message in a really accessible, helpful and powerful way.”
