New Leadership at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church: Jonathan Evans Takes the Helm

The Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church in Dallas, Texas, witnessed a significant leadership transition as Jonathan Evans was officially installed as the new lead pastor. This change comes two months after the restoration of the church’s founder, Pastor Tony Evans, who returned to ministry following a temporary step back due to an undisclosed sin.

In a ceremony that was as emotional as it was symbolic, Tony Evans, at 75 years of age, passed the leadership torch to his son, Jonathan. The occasion was marked by Tony’s heartfelt gesture of gifting his own father’s Bible to Jonathan, symbolizing the continuation of their family’s spiritual legacy.

Tony Evans expressed his belief in God’s ongoing purpose for him, saying, “He still has a purpose for my life and gifts as long as He has me here. So don’t feel bad for Moses, and don’t feel bad for me because Joshua is going to lead you.” He urged the congregation to support Jonathan, drawing parallels to the biblical leadership transition from Moses to Joshua.

Jonathan Evans, who previously played professional football and is a father of five with his wife, Kanika, thanked those who supported him and called upon the congregation to build on his father’s legacy. Citing Joshua 1:3, he emphasized the importance of collective effort in their spiritual journey.

“If we want to experience what God has already done, then from this day forward, we got to go tread on it,” Jonathan declared, rallying the church community to actively engage in their faith journey together.

Earlier this year, Tony Evans was restored to ministry by the church after undergoing a 12-month restoration program. This involved counseling, pastoral mentoring, and stepping away from leadership roles. Chris Wheel, the associate pastor of outreach at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, confirmed Evans’ adherence to church discipline and noted his demonstration of genuine repentance and renewed commitment.

“In alignment with biblical principles and unanimous affirmation of the elder board, Dr. Evans has successfully completed this restoration journey,” stated Wheel. Although he will not assume a staff role, there is eager anticipation for Tony Evans’ contributions to spreading the teachings of the Scripture.
