Public Outcry over Trump’s Comments on Rob Reiner’s Death

In the wake of the tragic murder of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, a significant portion of the American public, including many within President Donald Trump’s own party, have expressed disapproval of the President’s social media comments regarding the incident.

A comprehensive survey conducted by YouGov revealed that 72% of the 1,107 adult participants found Trump’s post about Reiner’s death to be “inappropriate.” Only 17% of those surveyed felt that the comments were “appropriate.”

Among Republicans, 55% disapproved of Trump’s remarks. When considering Republicans who don’t identify as “MAGA,” 66% found the post inappropriate, contrasted with 19% who approved. “MAGA Republicans” offered a more mixed response, with 45% disapproving, 43% approving, and 13% undecided.

In stark contrast, a substantial majority of respondents viewed the responses from other political figures more favorably. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s and California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s comments were deemed “appropriate” by 89% and 84% of participants, respectively.

Rob Reiner, a prominent director and actor known for his progressive activism and criticism of President Trump, was found dead alongside his wife Michele in their Los Angeles residence on December 14. Their son, Nick Reiner, aged 32, was charged with their murder.

Trump’s controversial post on Truth Social, which centered on Reiner’s critiques of his administration, drew widespread condemnation. The president wrote, “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME,” he posted.

The statement also noted Reiner’s “raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump,” suggesting that his paranoia escalated as the Trump administration “surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness.”

Critics from both sides of the political aisle, including Southern Baptist Convention figure and Christian Post Executive Editor Dr. Richard Land, condemned Trump’s remarks. Land criticized the comments as “insensitive and untimely,” advocating instead for prayer and support for the Reiner family during their “unimaginable” ordeal.

“We need to be praying for the people involved and praying for other families who are facing similar crises in their lives, and reaffirming our commitment to trying to limit this terrible scourge of drugs that is devastating so many of our American youth,” said Land.
