A Renowned Voice in Biblical Prophecy Leaves a Lasting Legacy

Hal Lindsey, famed as a leading authority on biblical prophecy and the bestselling author of The Late Great Planet Earth, has passed away at the age of 95, just two days after celebrating his birthday.

Lindsey’s death was announced on his website’s homepage, “The Hal Lindsey Report.” Social media was flooded with tributes, including a heartfelt message from Prophecy Update, a platform dedicated to discussions around End Times.

The post described Lindsey as “a long time mentor and encouraging friend,” emphasizing his journey from a humble tugboat skipper to a prominent figure in the world of Bible prophecy. His work, particularly “Combat Faith,” was credited with guiding many towards faith.

Pastor Tom Hughes, associated with 412 Churches and Hope For Our Times Ministries, shared his memories on Facebook, acknowledging the significant influence of Lindsey’s book on his passion for biblical prophecy. Hughes recalled a meaningful visit with Lindsey in 2016, watching him record for “The Hal Lindsey Report.”

Lindsey’s early life began in 1929 in Houston, Texas, where he pursued business studies at the University of Houston. His service in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War preceded his time as a tugboat captain in the 1950s. His foundation in End Times teachings was laid at Dallas Theological Seminary, as reported by the Critical Dictionary of Apocalyptic and Millenarian Movements.

His book, The Late Great Planet Earth, published in 1970 by Zondervan, a small theological press, gained immense popularity, selling over 28 million copies. The book was later reissued by Bantam Books in 1973 and inspired a film narrated by Orson Wells in 1976. Lindsey’s interpretations linked societal events like the Cold War and the Vietnam War to signs of the End Times.

Lindsey also made a significant mark on Christian television, beginning with the “International Intelligence Briefing” on the Trinity Broadcasting Network until 2006, after which he started “The Hal Lindsey Report,” focusing on Bible prophecy and current events, according to a report by CBN.
