The festive atmosphere at the Christmas Spectacular hosted by the Champion Forest Baptist Church in Texas was unexpectedly marred when a participant was kicked by a camel during a performance. The incident, which was captured on a video shared on social media, occurred as the camel was being led through the sanctuary’s narrow aisles.
The video depicts the woman, seated in the aisle, being struck by the camel’s kick and subsequently slumping sideways. Audience members quickly intervened to assist her.
Subsequently, Grizzy’s Hood News reported that the woman received medical attention at a nearby hospital and has since been discharged to continue her recovery.
Described as “a 90 minute, family friendly show celebrating the birth of Jesus and the joy of the holiday season,” the church’s website outlines the annual event. The production, which includes elaborate songs, dance, lights, and special effects, ran from December 9 to December 14.
Church representatives did not immediately provide comments to The Christian Post. However, in a statement to NBC News, communications director Steven Miori referred to the event as “unexpected.”
“Champion Forest regrets that this happened,” Miori expressed. “Our team responded immediately, and emergency services were engaged.” He also noted that the church is no longer allowing animals to walk through audience seating areas following the incident.
While specifics about the woman’s injuries remain unspecified, research by the National Library of Medicine indicates that camel kicks pose significant danger, being a principal cause of injuries associated with camels. The power of a camel’s kick can lead to severe injuries or even be fatal.
“Patients with a kick-related injury had a significantly higher rate of maxillofacial fractures compared with other mechanisms,” according to the study. Additionally, a 2022 report titled “The nature and consequences of camel-related injuries: A scoping review with special reference to Arab Middle Eastern countries” highlights that camel kicks are particularly prevalent during breeding seasons when males exhibit heightened aggression.
