The international community is closely monitoring developments in Venezuela following the recent US operation that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The couple, who now face serious charges in the US, were detained by the US Army’s elite Delta Force and remain under custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

Facing accusations of drug trafficking and weapons violations, Maduro continues to deny the charges. In the meantime, US President Donald Trump has announced that the US will temporarily oversee Venezuelan operations, particularly targeting the reactivation of its oil industry.

Some Christian figures have expressed support for President Trump’s decisive actions. Franklin Graham, a well-known American evangelist, praised the president’s proactive approach, stating, “I’m sure the people of Venezuela are breathing a huge sigh of relief that this evil dictator, Nicolás Maduro, is gone.” Graham also urged prayers for Trump and his administration as they navigate future decisions.

Similarly, Pastor and author Michael A Youssef commended the operation, thanking the president and highlighting the renewed hope it provides for oppressed populations globally. Youssef further noted the significant impact on millions of people worldwide who are inspired by these actions.

In Venezuela, the Evangelical Council has taken a more cautious stance, emphasizing reliance on divine sovereignty during this tumultuous period. The council offered prayers and solidarity to those affected, underscoring their faith in God’s guidance.

Meanwhile, Pope Leo has called for adherence to international law, sharing his concerns during his Angelus address. He stressed the importance of prioritizing the welfare of Venezuelans and urged for peaceful solutions, justice, and respect for the country’s sovereignty.

World Vision, a Christian aid organization, has highlighted the humanitarian crisis affecting Venezuelans, with millions displaced across neighboring countries and many facing severe hardships within Venezuela itself. Joao Diniz, the regional leader for Latin America and the Caribbean, has called for international support to address these pressing needs, particularly for vulnerable children.

Following the capture of Maduro, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has assumed the role of acting leader in Venezuela. She has expressed a desire for peaceful coexistence and a respectful bilateral relationship with the US, advocating for cooperation and dialogue.

In the UK, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has refrained from criticizing the US intervention, instead reaffirming the UK’s stance on supporting a transition of power in Venezuela. He underscored the importance of international law and the UK’s commitment to a peaceful transition that aligns with the will of the Venezuelan populace.
