Christian Leaders Unite in Prayer with President Trump

In a gathering that emphasized faith and leadership, President Donald Trump met with over a dozen Christian leaders in the Oval Office earlier this week. The event, marked by prayer and reflection, highlighted the president’s growing connection with faith communities, a bond reportedly strengthened following an assassination attempt last summer.

Guided by Paula White-Cain, Senior Advisor at the White House Faith Office and longtime spiritual advisor to Trump, the leaders assembled for a session that blended prayer and strategy. Images from the meeting reveal the faith leaders’ deep engagement, as they laid hands on the president in prayer.

Among the notable participants were Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference; Pastor Robert Jeffress of First Baptist Church in Dallas; Pastor Travis Johnson of Alabama’s Pathway Church; David Barton of WallBuilders; former presidential candidate Gary Bauer; and William Wolfe, Executive Director of the Center for Baptist Leadership.

Rev. Rodriguez, who has been involved with the White House Faith Office since Trump’s first term, led a heartfelt prayer for the president. He expressed gratitude and sought divine protection and guidance, stating: “You assigned him, you appointed him, you anointed him for such a time as this.”

Rodriguez elaborated on the significance of the moment and his experience, remarking on the honor of collaborating with White-Cain and Special Assistant Jenny Korn. “I am grateful to them for the opportunity to be a voice for Christians and the Latino community,” he said.

Prior to the Oval Office prayer, the faith leaders convened privately to discuss policies and initiatives. Rodriguez described the gathering as focused on strategy and planning, noting the cordial atmosphere when they met with Trump.

Reflecting on the meeting, Rodriguez praised Trump’s demeanor, describing him as “unbelievably gracious” and likening the event to a family reunion. He commended the president as “the No. 1 most pro-faith president in my lifetime” and linked Trump’s leadership to fulfilling Ronald Reagan’s vision of America guided by Judeo-Christian values.

During Trump’s initial term from 2017 to 2021, the White House frequently engaged with Evangelical leaders. In 2018, a notable “state dinner” hosted over 100 such leaders, underscoring the administration’s commitment to engaging with faith communities.

Rodriguez observed a shift in Trump’s engagement with Christian leaders, attributing it to the life-threatening incident he survived. “God spared his life, and hence, the faith factor is even elevated through his personal testimony,” he said, viewing Trump’s continued presence in the Oval Office as a testament to divine intervention.

The recent establishment of the White House Faith Office, announced by Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast and detailed in a February executive order, aims to empower faith-based organizations. The office is tasked with supporting community organizations and advising the president on policies affecting these entities.
