Conor McGregor, famed for his bold persona in the UFC ring, has embarked on a spiritual transformation, attributing his newfound path to divine intervention. He recently spoke about his faith journey, which he claims has redirected his life.

McGregor, who once dominated the UFC featherweight and lightweight divisions, spoke at a press conference in Italy for the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, where he is a part-owner.

“I’m not here just by chance. There is a higher power, God, that dictates my journey and all of our journeys. And I live my life by God’s Word,” McGregor said when asked about his personal journey’s alignment with the BKFC spirit.

Since his last UFC appearance in 2021 against Dustin Poirier, McGregor has been absent from the octagon. During this time, he claims to have experienced significant personal growth.

“Since around that time that you mentioned, at the last event, I’ve engaged on a spiritual journey and I’ve [been] saved. I’m saved. I am healed,” he expressed, adding that his competitive spirit has been rekindled.

David Feldman, President of BKFC, lauded McGregor for his personal evolution.

“A lot of people in the world need to make changes in their life, and they don’t because they don’t have the guts to, they don’t have the balls to, they don’t have the fortitude to,” Feldman stated. “And I just want to take this time to take my hat off and commend Conor McGregor for making the kind of change that he had to make.”

Feldman believes fans will witness “the best Conor McGregor” upon his return to the UFC.

McGregor, who has four children with his fiancée Dee Devlin, has shown interest in making a comeback during a UFC event at the White House on June 14, 2026, coinciding with the United States’ 250th anniversary.

Despite his achievements, McGregor’s career has been marred by controversies, including several sexual assault allegations and a 2018 conviction for disorderly conduct. His legal troubles included throwing a dolly through a bus window, for which he served community service and attended anger management.

At the press conference, McGregor expressed a desire to “leave a legacy that can be looked upon as a lesson.”

“You’ve seen with me what works. I showed what works, and also, I showed what doesn’t work. Now I’m in a stage where I come back and show again what I’m about,” he remarked.

McGregor isn’t the only fighter embracing Christianity. Former UFC athlete Ben Askren also recently found faith following a life-threatening health scare.

Earlier this year, Askren recounted surviving a 45-day coma due to pneumonia, which necessitated a double lung transplant.

“There was multiple times where they thought I was dead. Like I was dead, that’s the other side,” Askren, 41, said in August. “I woke up and I just decided I was a Christian. So, that’s crazy.”

Askren shared his gratitude for the support he received during his ordeal, noting the generosity of friends and community members.
