(Isaiah 60:3, NIV) – “Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”
God’s light has always been a beacon of hope in the darkest of times. In this passage from Isaiah, we see a breathtaking promise—nations and kings will be drawn to the light of God’s glory. For Israel, this was a profound declaration. Surrounded by nations that had oppressed and conquered them, imagining these same nations seeking God’s light felt almost impossible. Yet, God assured them that His redemptive work would bring peace instead of conflict, joy instead of fear.
This message is not limited to ancient Israel. It resonates deeply in our world today, a world often marred by division, prejudice, and misunderstanding. The light God promises is not a distant vision; it reflects Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, who came to bring salvation to all people. His light draws us out of darkness—not just the personal darkness of sin and despair but also the collective shadows of war, inequality, and fear of the “other.”
God’s light calls us to see beyond our differences. It calls us to embrace the diverse beauty of His creation and to rejoice as people from every culture and nation are drawn into His presence. Instead of retreating into fear or mistrust, we are invited to become participants in God’s redemptive story, welcoming others into the light of His kingdom.
What would it look like for us to live as the light-bearers God calls us to be? When we reflect Christ’s love, forgiveness, and peace, we become vessels of hope that draw others closer to Him. As we do so, the promised reality of nations coming to the light becomes a little clearer, a little closer.
The journey of faith is not about fearing differences but celebrating the unity God brings through His light. As followers of Christ, may we shine brightly in a world longing for hope, helping to usher in the day when every knee bows and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Let us pray.
Lord of all nations, we thank You for the light of Your Son, which pierces through the darkness and draws all people to You. Help us to reflect Your light in our actions and attitudes. Remove any fear or prejudice in our hearts and replace it with love and grace. May we be faithful ambassadors of Your kingdom, rejoicing as Your light gathers people from every corner of the earth. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
