Elon Musk and Gavin Newsom Clash Over Transgender Issues

In a heated exchange, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press office targeted Elon Musk regarding his transgender-identifying son, prompting a fierce response from the billionaire.

The controversy began when Newsom’s press office posted a tweet addressing Musk with the words, “We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon,” alongside a clip of Newsom supporting transgender minors during an interview with The New York Times.

Musk, whose son Xavier has transitioned to Vivian Jenna Wilson, described his grief and blamed the situation on mental illness and figures like Newsom. He responded on X, “I assume you’re referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children.”

Previously, Musk expressed concerns about his son’s gender identity, linking it to autism and being “born gay,” which he sees as related to gender dysphoria. He recalled, “I knew that from when he was about 4 years old and he would pick out clothes for me to wear like a jacket and tell me it was ‘fabulous!,’ as well as love of musicals & theatre. But he was not a girl.”

Further escalating the conversation, Xavier criticized Musk, saying he “doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he quite simply wasn’t there, and in the little time that he was I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness.”

In a 2024 discussion with psychologist Jordan Peterson, Musk stated his son is effectively “dead” due to the influence of medical professionals who allegedly pressured him into signing off on Xavier’s transition treatments.

Musk’s decision to relocate his companies from California was reportedly influenced by the state’s policies on transgender minors, including a law that prevents schools from being obligated to inform parents about their child’s gender identity changes.

The reaction to Newsom’s office tweet was swift and critical from several public figures. Senator Ted Cruz condemned the message, calling it “sick,” while Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir, labeled it “raw evil.” Activist Chloe Cole, who has experience with gender identity issues, described it as government overreach.

Comments from Kaylee McGhee White and Theo Wold indicated a belief that the push for gender ideology by some leftist groups aims to undermine family structures by alienating children from their parents.
