In a remarkable testament to faith and survival, what began as a routine family boating excursion on the Colorado River nearly ended in tragedy for high school football coach David Beezer. The harrowing incident, which left him fighting for his life with a crushed airway, transformed into a story of divine intervention that even left medical professionals in awe.

The accident that changed everything

While cruising at approximately 40 mph with his family, Beezer’s boat struck an unexpected sandbar hidden beneath the water’s surface. The impact was devastating, with Beezer taking the full force of the collision to his neck. “So we went from just going full speed, you know, with a boat full of people just having a great time, to zero within just a few feet, the full force of the collision was right on my neck,” he recounted.

The situation quickly became critical as Beezer struggled to breathe. “I’d hit the steering wheel right at my voice box and airway. And immediately I could feel it was becoming difficult to breathe,” he explained. Unable to help his family and stranded in an area notorious for poor cell reception, Beezer turned to faith.

Unexpected help arrives

In what would be the first of several miraculous events, Beezer’s wife managed to get through to 911 – something that had never been possible in that location before. While emergency services were en route, an off-duty sheriff fortuitously decided to respond, a decision that would prove crucial. Beezer later acknowledged, “If the sheriff, if the off-duty sheriff that came for me had not come, with certainty I would’ve died on the boat in front of my kids.”

Medical journey and divine intervention

Beezer was airlifted to Yuma, Arizona, suffering from a laryngeal fracture and a collapsed lung. Doctors placed him in a medically induced coma for nearly a week. Upon awakening, his trauma doctor made a remarkable statement, telling him there was “only one reason you’re alive. G-O-D.”

The series of miraculous events continued during his recovery. When doctors discovered a concerning growth in his throat, it mysteriously disappeared before planned surgery, leaving medical professionals to acknowledge the power of prayer and divine intervention.

Finding new meaning

The experience profoundly impacted Beezer’s perspective on life and community. “Just the prayers of school family, church family just the outpouring of love. You never really realize how much you’re loved until you go through a situation like this,” he reflected. Today, Beezer attributes his survival and recovery solely to divine intervention, with his story serving as a powerful reminder of faith’s role in overcoming life’s most challenging moments.
