When firefighters responded to a devastating blaze at a Sanford, Florida residence, they discovered destruction throughout the home—but one item remained mysteriously pristine. A family Bible, sitting in a box surrounded by melted belongings and charred debris, emerged without a single burn mark, offering the displaced family a source of comfort amid catastrophic loss.

The Seminole County Fire Department responded to the Raky family’s home after a fire ignited in their garage, reportedly sparked by a Tesla charging port. The flames moved with terrifying speed through the structure, reducing much of the interior to ash and ruins within seconds.

Rapid destruction leaves family homeless

Mina Raky described the shocking velocity of the fire’s spread to Fox 35 Orlando reporter Marley Capper, who attends the same church as the family. “I saw smoke and then sparks and the whole house was on fire. It didn’t take one minute. It was like 20 seconds. Everything was on fire,” he recounted.

Standing in what remained of their kitchen, Mina and his daughter Lily surveyed cabinets that had been destroyed and possessions that had melted beyond recognition. “It’s just crazy to me that this is gone,” Lily said. “But the Lord will bless us. It’s crazy to think about all the memories that happened here and that it can just be gone in a split second. But the Lord provides.”

Bible survives unscathed in destroyed home

Amid the devastation, reporter Capper spotted something that moved her to tears: a Bible resting in a box. While the container showed signs of soot, the Bible itself appeared untouched by the flames that had consumed everything around it.

“That is my Bible,” Mina said. “I cried because that’s where I have all my notes. That’s where I have my fights, my arguments with myself. That’s where I read my morning time with God. I’m glad this is safe. Everything is gone except His word. It will never go away.”

Daughter’s dramatic escape from second floor

Lily’s survival required divine intervention, according to her account of the harrowing experience. After waking to find the upstairs filled with smoke, she attempted to locate her siblings but began losing consciousness as breathing became impossible.

“The Lord just kind of gave me a word,” Lily explained. “After I ran into my brother’s room, the Lord was like, ‘Window, window, window.’ And I’m like, oh my gosh, thank you, Jesus, the window.”

She threw herself from the second-story window just as she was passing out from smoke inhalation. A neighbor discovered her and assisted her down using a ladder.

Church community provides immediate support

The family’s church congregation mobilized quickly to help the displaced Rakys. Beyond securing an Airbnb for temporary housing, church members transformed the space with printed family photographs, a Christmas tree, and personalized stockings bearing each family member’s name.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Mina said. “They didn’t just find a place to stay. They made it home. They got us back to normal.”

Despite acknowledging moments of lost hope and ongoing trauma from the experience, both Lily and Mina maintained their faith while standing among the ruins of their former home. The intact Bible serves as a tangible reminder to the family that their most important possessions cannot be consumed by flames.
