In a significant breakthrough, federal officials have detained individuals linked to a radical domestic terror organization accused of planning a coordinated attack using explosive devices on the upcoming New Year’s Eve.

During a press briefing on Monday, it was disclosed that four members of the Turtle Island Liberation Front were apprehended last Friday, potentially averting a major disaster planned for December 31.

In coordination with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, the FBI managed to capture the suspects, who were allegedly targeting several corporations.

Assistance was also provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Western District of Louisiana and the District of Massachusetts, as search warrants were executed nationwide.

The accused, identified as Audrey Carroll, 30; Zachary Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41, were reportedly orchestrating the elaborate attack.

The term “Turtle Island” is employed by some indigenous communities and activists to refer to North America, instead of using “America,” which is linked to the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci.

U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli from the Central District of California revealed that Carroll spearheaded a subgroup called the Order of the Black Lotus, with the other defendants among its members.

“The charges we are announcing today stem from the defendants and their co-conspirators’ detailed, coordinated plot to bomb multiple U.S. companies on New Year’s Eve. Thankfully, that plot has now been foiled thanks to the hard work of the FBI and the Department of Justice,” Essayli stated.

Essayli explained that the group identifies itself as “an anti-capitalist, anti-government movement that calls for their associates to rise up and fight back against capitalism.”

In November, Carroll allegedly devised a comprehensive plan to bomb five sites in southern California, aiming to subsequently attack U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The suspects reportedly tested their explosive devices in a desert area and possessed all necessary bomb-making materials when apprehended.

Officials discovered provocative materials in their Los Angeles homes, including posters with slogans like “Death to America,” “Long Live Turtle Island and Palestine,” and “Death to ICE.”

Essayli emphasized, “This case is another reminder about the dangers that radicalized Antifa-like groups pose to people, public safety and the rule of law. We disrupted this terror plot before buildings were demolished or innocent people were killed. But this is not the end of our work.”

In a related context, President Donald Trump issued an executive order in September, labeling Antifa as a “domestic terrorist organization.”

The executive order mandates federal agencies to utilize their authority to investigate and dismantle illegal operations by Antifa or similar entities.

This move aligns with the Trump administration’s broader strategy to counteract left-wing extremism, following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Critics argue that the administration’s focus on leftist violence overlooks the prevalence of right-wing extremism. Michael Jensen from the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism consortium at the University of Maryland remarked to The Washington Post, “It’s something like 5-to-1 in terms of the number of attacks and deaths that can be attributed to far-right actors as opposed to far-left actors.”

Despite such criticisms, a CSIS report suggests a rise in leftist terrorism, contrasting with a decline in right-wing violence.
