Sixteen-year-old Antonio Mays Jr. embarked on a significant journey in the summer of 2020, traveling a thousand miles to be part of the racial justice movement sweeping the nation. His destination was Seattle’s Capitol Hill Occupied Protest, commonly referred to as CHOP. Tragically, within just a few days, Antonio’s life was abruptly ended by gunfire, and the mystery surrounding his death remains unresolved.

Sydney Brownstone from The Seattle Times and Will James from KUOW collaborate with NPR’s Embedded to delve into the circumstances of Antonio’s untimely demise. Teaming up with journalist David Gutman, they embark on a meticulous investigation, seeking out pivotal individuals and witnesses from that fateful night. Their efforts have brought to light crucial evidence that had not been disclosed to the public before.
