Violent Assault on French Nun in East Jerusalem Sparks Outrage
In East Jerusalem, a French nun became the victim of a violent assault, leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old Israeli man. The shocking event was captured on video and circulated online, showing the nun being forcefully pushed to the ground from behind.
The video further depicts the attacker returning to kick the nun as she lay injured, an act interrupted by a bystander who intervened to help her. This incident has drawn strong condemnation from various officials and organizations.
Bishop William Shomali, vicar general of the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem, described the attack as “extremely serious and despicable,” according to Anadolu. He emphasized, “The attacker returning to kick her after she was already injured makes the crime even more severe. This is a despicable act.”
Daniel Carmon, Israel’s former ambassador to India, labeled the act as “Jewish terrorism,” highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The French Consulate in Jerusalem also condemned the attack, stating, “France strongly condemns the attack against a French nun.” They further expressed concern for the nun’s health and urged for the perpetrator to be brought to justice.
Israeli police, who have released an image showing the nun’s facial injuries, issued a statement reinforcing their stance against all forms of violence, particularly those racially motivated against clergy, as reported by Anadolu.
