In an unexpected twist at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, FBI Director Kash Patel found himself at the center of a media storm after celebrating with the U.S. men’s hockey team following their gold medal win against Canada. As video footage of Patel’s exuberant locker-room celebration went viral, the public and media alike were quick to react.

Kash Patel’s Celebratory Moment

The footage captured Patel, a known hockey enthusiast, downing a beer and joining in the team’s jubilation by spraying beer on players and energetically banging a table. In the midst of the celebration, forward Matthew Tkachuk draped the gold medal around Patel’s neck, while the team sang Toby Keith’s patriotic anthem “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.” The scene was shared widely on social media, including a tweet by journalist William Turton.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, some observers were quick to criticize Patel’s participation, suggesting it was inappropriate given ongoing FBI investigations and national concerns. Critics pointed to unresolved issues such as the Epstein case files and recent security threats at Mar-a-Lago, questioning the FBI Director’s priorities.

NBC News highlighted Patel’s overseas celebration in contrast to urgent domestic matters facing the FBI. This sentiment was echoed by Xochitl Hinojosa, former spokeswoman for the Attorney General, who criticized Patel in a tweet.

Patel’s Response to the Backlash

Addressing the criticism, Patel explained in a statement that he was invited by the team to join the celebration, as he was in Italy for other governmental duties. “For the very concerned media — yes, I love America and was extremely humbled when my friends, the newly minted Gold Medal winners on Team USA, invited me into the locker room to celebrate this historic moment with the boys. Greatest country on earth and greatest sport on earth,” he stated.

Dan Bongino, former FBI Deputy Director, also defended Patel, dismissing the controversy over the video. In a tweet, Bongino remarked, “The media melting down about him being invited into the locker room and chugging a brewski? Whatever, man. I don’t really give a s—.”

Trump Joins the Celebration

Additional footage showed Patel putting President Donald Trump on speakerphone in the locker room, where Trump congratulated the team and extended an invitation to his upcoming State of the Union address. Trump jokingly noted that he would need to invite the women’s team as well to avoid impeachment, sparking further reactions on social media.

The U.S. men’s hockey team secured their victory with a dramatic 2-1 win over Canada, with Jack Hughes playing a pivotal role despite an injury. The team’s accomplishment marked the first gold medal win for the U.S. men’s hockey team since the historic 1980 “Miracle on Ice” win.
