A Life of Faith and Philanthropy: Lord Edmiston’s Journey
In an era where wealth and influence often dominate headlines, Lord Robert Edmiston stands out for leveraging his resources towards Christian mission. His journey from a rebellious youth to a prominent businessman and philanthropist underscores the transformative power of faith.
In a recent interview on Evangelical 360, hosted by Brian Stiller, Lord Edmiston and his wife, Lady Tracie Edmiston, recount their faith-driven journey through business, politics, and charity.
Lord Edmiston’s path to faith began in his teenage years following a simple church invitation delivered to his home. This pivotal moment redirected his life away from a troubled past towards a future grounded in Christian values.
Initially believing he was destined for missionary work in Africa, Lord Edmiston’s journey took a different route. His success in the business world enabled him to support global evangelism by financing and facilitating missionary work on a significant scale.
Reflecting on his early career challenges, Edmiston noted, “But even in that crisis, God had a plan.” These experiences laid the foundation for a thriving business that would later support widespread missionary efforts.
Lady Tracie Edmiston shared how their shared purpose led to the creation of Christian Vision, an organization dedicated to evangelism, particularly in areas where traditional ministries face challenges. Their approach evolved from radio broadcasts to utilizing digital and social media platforms for outreach.
Lord Edmiston emphasized obedience to the gospel rather than attachment to wealth. He stated, “I never made it my god … and I think that’s a test God gives you … we should all honour God with our wealth, whether it be big or small.”
The Edmistons’ philanthropy is driven by gratitude and love for God rather than obligation. “He loves a cheerful giver and if our heart is full of gratitude to Him, then it’s a blessing when you can give that way,” Lord Edmiston remarked.
Christian Vision focuses on reaching areas with limited access to religious teachings, utilizing digital media to engage global audiences and foster continuous “faith journeys.”
Despite global challenges, Lord Edmiston maintains hope, citing renewed spiritual interest among younger generations and the expansive reach of digital communication. He believes that modern technology offers unprecedented opportunities for global evangelism.
Additionally, Lord Edmiston is involved with the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer project, a monumental testament to answered prayers over the centuries. Scheduled to open in 2028, the project aims to remind future generations of divine guidance and protection.
In his concluding remarks on Evangelical 360, Lord Edmiston said, “Everything we have, we give away. And if we’ve got a project, we’ll give it away to someone who can do it better than us. There’s no tribalism here. I’m not trying to build a local church. What we’re doing is trying to build the kingdom of God.”
