Maine’s Democratic Senate Candidate Withdraws Amidst Controversy
The political scene in Maine has taken a dramatic turn as Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, has officially exited the race. This decision comes in the wake of serious allegations and mounting pressure from within the party.
On July 10, Platner filed the required documents with the Maine Secretary of State to withdraw his candidacy. This move followed accusations of rape from a former romantic partner, allegations which Platner firmly denies. The Maine Democratic Party now faces the task of choosing a new candidate by July 27.

Despite a history of scandals, Platner secured an impressive win during the June 9 primary, amassing over 150,000 votes—a record for a Democratic Senate candidate in Maine.
