When a small aircraft experienced engine failure over a crowded Florida interstate during rush hour, the stage was set for what could have been a catastrophic disaster. Instead, what unfolded became a testament to divine intervention that left witnesses and first responders in awe.

Emergency landing on Interstate 95
The incident occurred on a Monday evening around 5:45 p.m. on Interstate 95 in Brevard County. A Beechcraft 55 aircraft carrying two men, both 27 years old—one a pilot from Orlando and the other a passenger from Temple Terrace—suffered complete engine failure while airborne.
With limited options and a highway full of rush hour traffic below, the pilot executed an emergency landing directly onto the interstate. The aircraft collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry during its descent.
Pastors become first responders
Bernard and Annie Wigley, pastors at Thy Kingdom Come ministries in Melbourne, were transporting their daughter to the airport when Annie noticed something unusual overhead. Initially mistaking it for a drone or low-flying helicopter, she quickly realized it was an airplane descending rapidly toward the highway.
Following the impact, the pastoral couple immediately pulled over. Both Annie and her daughter, who are trained nurses, rushed across traffic lanes to reach the damaged vehicle.
“It was awful. I absolutely expected to see someone that was either bleeding or possibly even dead,” Annie said.
Miraculous survival amid total destruction
The condition of the Toyota Camry shocked everyone at the scene. The vehicle sustained catastrophic damage throughout its entire structure—except for one critical area.
“The car was totaled except the driver’s seat. That was the only part. I mean, the car was crushed,” Pastor Bernard explained.
After struggling with the damaged door, Annie and her daughter finally accessed the vehicle’s interior. Inside, they found a 57-year-old woman, conscious but disoriented. Brevard County Fire Rescue transported her to a medical facility where she was treated for only minor injuries.
The two men aboard the aircraft emerged from the incident completely uninjured.
Potential for catastrophic loss
Pastor Bernard, who captured video footage at the scene, reflected on the numerous ways the situation could have resulted in mass casualties. He noted, “Everybody is fine. Even the pilot for the plane is still sitting in the pilot seat.”
The potential for widespread devastation was significant. The emergency landing occurred during peak traffic hours on a busy interstate corridor.
“That could have been total destruction, total destruction. That could have been 12 to 15 cars. There could have been fire from the fuel of the plane and total chaos like something you see in a movie,” Pastor Bernard said.
Faith and protection
For Annie Wigley, the outcome pointed unmistakably toward divine protection rather than mere chance.
“I knew it was God that saved her absolutely, even the two pilots that landed and only hit the one car. I knew God was in control,” she said.
She emphasized her conviction about the source of this protection: “I give God all the credit and thanks because he preserved life that day, and it was a miracle. It was truly a miracle.”
The Wigleys revealed they had been engaged in prayer during their drive to the airport that evening. They believe their prayers were answered directly through the protection extended to everyone involved in the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the engine failure.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil… praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” (Ephesians 6:10–18)
