While many teenagers spend their summer vacation relaxing indoors with phones in hand or meeting up with friends, one Oklahoma teen has chosen a different path that’s making a real difference in his community. Konner Farewell has turned a simple lawn-mowing service into a mission that’s sending younger kids to summer camp, and he’s been doing it quietly without seeking recognition.

The teenager operates a lawn care business in his neighborhood, but there’s a twist that sets him apart from typical entrepreneurial teens. Rather than pocketing his earnings for personal spending, Konner directs every dollar toward funding summer camp experiences for third through sixth grade students. He deliberately keeps his prices affordable, and most of his customers remain unaware of his charitable purpose until others inform them.

A youth pastor’s perspective

Tony Butler, Konner’s youth pastor at Brookwood Baptist Church, has witnessed the young man’s character development firsthand. “Just watching him mature and just having a heart for serving and to be able to just give what he can” he said.

Beyond his lawn-mowing initiative, Konner demonstrates commitment by voluntarily showing up nearly every Saturday to assist with cabin repairs at Falls Creek in preparation for the camping season. His participation is entirely self-motivated, with no external pressure or requirements.

Community recognition

The story came to wider attention when Carolyn Martin, one of Konner’s neighbors, discovered the true purpose behind his lawn care services and nominated him for News 4’s Pay It Forward award. First Fidelity Bank subsequently presented him with a $400 donation to support his cause.

The origins of Konner’s lawn-mowing work trace back to a challenging family period when his mother underwent breast cancer treatment and was unable to maintain their yard. “I find it relaxing the smell of grass” he said. “It’s something I’m good at and it benefits others.”

Growing impact

According to his parents, Konner’s servant-hearted nature has been consistent throughout his life. His example has now inspired others in the community, with a group forming to meet weekly and participate in service projects alongside him.

His approach aligns with biblical teachings found in Matthew 6:4 where Jesus says “that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.” Konner never publicized his fundraising efforts or sought attention for his charitable work, choosing instead to simply continue showing up and serving.
