Pastor Laurie Comments on Shift in Political Landscape

In a recent address, Pastor Greg Laurie expressed his view that the American public has granted President-elect Donald Trump a decisive mandate with far-reaching implications. Laurie suggested that a potential Harris administration could have intensified governmental antagonism towards Christian communities.

“Americans are tired of this crazy, woke agenda we’ve been dealing with for the last four years,” Laurie stated in a video clip uploaded to X. He cited issues such as “promoting late-term abortions, mutilating our children, men in women’s sports, men in women’s bathrooms” as prevailing concerns. Laurie further articulated his belief that “God has placed President Trump in office for such a time as this.”

Laurie, who is the founder of Harvest churches and Harvest Crusades, likened Trump’s political ascent to the biblical story of Esther. He highlighted how Esther, as a Jewish queen, thwarted a genocide against her people in ancient Persia. “I believe God has placed President Trump in this position for this moment in American history,” Laurie reiterated.

The pastor also drew parallels between Trump’s experiences and those of former President Ronald Reagan, who survived an assassination attempt and later was instrumental in the Cold War’s end. Laurie remarked, “This is a man who has faced incredible challenges, two assassination attempts, and he himself has said publicly he believes that God has spared him, and I believe he’s right.”

While Laurie acknowledged the role of politics in society, he emphasized, “Politics and politicians will never bring a spiritual awakening to America. That is the work of God, but government has its place.” He postulated that a Democrat victory in the election could have led to heightened political pressures on Christian churches.

Laurie urged Christians to pray for their leaders and exercise their right to hold them accountable. He recently participated in a Trump rally in California, where he clarified his political involvement aims to “glorify Jesus Christ.” Laurie expressed willingness to engage in similar events across the political spectrum, stating his primary role is to “represent Christ.”

Challenging the concept of separating church from state, Laurie referenced its origins in a private letter by Thomas Jefferson. He argued, “The objective of Jefferson in writing on that particular topic was to keep the government out of the Church, not to keep the Church out of government.” He concluded by encouraging Christians to “permeate” and “saturate” the culture, quoting Jesus, “You’re the light of the world, you’re the salt of the Earth.”
