In a city known for its diversity, a London police officer’s handling of a tense situation between a Christian street preacher and members of the Muslim community has been widely applauded. The incident, captured on video, shows PC Moule addressing complaints in Whitechapel about a street preacher’s activities.

The video, which quickly gained traction online, depicts PC Moule calmly asserting the preacher’s right to express his beliefs. In the face of local residents’ concerns, who argued “but we live here” and “this is our community,” she maintained that the preacher was not inciting hatred. Instead, she advised those who disagreed with his message to simply walk away.

This measured approach has garnered praise from various quarters. Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, expressed his admiration on TalkTV’s Jeremy Kyle’s Breakfast Show, stating, “She deserves to be honoured. I watched that video. She was calm, she was logical. Goodness me, what a credit she was to the Metropolitan Police.”

Toby Young, representing the Free Speech Union, echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that PC Moule “deserves a medal” and should be recognized as a model for future police training.

The officer’s actions also received accolades during a London Assembly session. Susan Hall, head of the Conservative group at City Hall, commended the officer’s commitment to free speech. Addressing Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist, she said, “I really would like to commend her and I would love to see more police officers actually doing that. I hope you thank her on behalf of very many of us.”

AC Twist responded, “Thank you for noting the great work of PC Moule who was in Whitechapel. It’s been reposted a number of times on differing social media accounts, some more politicised than others. My view is it was a good example of officers showing policing common sense without fear or favour and doing a good job.”

The Daily Mail has reported further on tensions, highlighting footage of the preacher being confronted and his equipment damaged.

Incidents involving street preachers have been on the rise, with several facing arrests after making controversial remarks on Islam and other issues. The latest case involves Dia Moodley, who is contemplating legal action following his arrest in Bristol last November for allegedly inciting religious hatred.
