Phil Robertson of ‘Duck Dynasty’ Faces Health Challenges Amid Family Support
Phil Robertson, the well-known personality from “Duck Dynasty,” is currently in the “early stages” of Alzheimer’s disease and is also dealing with a severe blood-related condition. This revelation, shared by his family, has led to a significant wave of support on social media platforms.
Details about the 78-year-old’s health were disclosed by his son, Jase Robertson, during an episode of the “Unashamed with the Robertson Family” podcast. “Phil’s not doing well. We were trying to figure out the diagnosis, but according to the doctors, they are sure that he has some sort of blood disease causing all kinds of problems,” Jase explained.
Jase further elaborated on the situation, stating, “And he has early stages of Alzheimer’s. So, if you put those things together, he’s just not doing well. … We’ve got a team of doctors, and then we have another set of doctors who are looking at all the tests, and they’re all in agreement that there’s no curing what he has.”
Despite these health setbacks, Phil Robertson remains hopeful about returning to his podcast duties. Jase shared a conversation with his father, saying, “I’m like, ‘Well Phil, you can barely walk around without crying out in pain, and your memory is not what it once was,'” to which Phil responded, “Tell me about it.”
Following the family’s announcement, social media has seen an outpouring of support for Robertson. Former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal tweeted, “Praying for (Phil Robertson) and his family,” while Franklin Graham, CEO of Samaritan’s Purse, encouraged people to pray for Robertson and his family in his tweet.
The Robertson family gained fame through the reality show “Duck Dynasty,” which aired from 2012 to 2017 on A&E. The show highlighted their business, Duck Commander, and their strong family values and faith.
Phil Robertson has faced public controversies before, notably in 2013 when he was suspended from “Duck Dynasty” after making comments about homosexuality and religion in a GQ profile. Reflecting on the incident, he told CP, “Five or six years ago, a guy came up and asked me, did I believe homosexual behavior was a sin,” to which he responded by quoting a Bible verse from 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. The backlash was significant, but Robertson noted, “a lot of good came forth” from his statements.
In addition to his television career, Phil Robertson has penned several books, including Happy, Happy, Happy: My Life and Legacy as the Duck Commander and The Theft of America’s Soul. His 2022 book, Uncanceled: Finding Meaning and Peace in a Culture of Accusations, Shame, and Condemnation, further explores his personal journey and beliefs.
The 2023 film “The Blind” delves into Robertson’s past struggles with addiction and anger before his conversion to Christianity. Willie Robertson, Phil’s son, shared how a pastor’s outreach in the 1970s significantly altered their family’s path.
The film’s impact is evident, as Korie Robertson, Willie’s wife, noted that many have found faith and healing after watching it. Numerous individuals have been baptized, including some in the Robertson family’s own backyard. “I wish we knew how many thousands of people have been baptized in that river right behind Phil and Kay’s house,” Korie stated.
