As people worldwide grapple with uncertainty, many have turned to scripture for solace, with Philippians 4:6 emerging as the most popular verse among YouVersion Bible app users in 2024. This particular verse resonated deeply with users, surpassing all others in engagement.
In a recent statement, YouVersion reported that Philippians 4:6 recorded the highest engagement, reflecting a trend of users seeking peace through prayer. The verse reads: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (NIV).
Bobby Gruenewald, the Founder and CEO of YouVersion, shared insights on this trend, stating, “In many cases, our anxiety comes from holding onto worries that we aren’t meant to carry.” He added, “To me, this verse being sought out the most this year is an illustration that our community is seeking God in prayer and choosing to trust Him to carry their burdens — and we’re seeing that supported in the data.”
The app’s prayer feature has seen a significant increase, with a 46% rise in user engagement from 2023 to 2024. Users have frequently used features like sharing prayers with friends and participating in prayer sessions, while “prayer” and “peace” topped the in-app search queries.
Geographically, the growth in daily Bible app engagement was most pronounced in Central and Eastern Africa, with Africa as a whole leading in the use of the Bible App for Kids. The trend continued in Latin America, where YouVersion plans to open a regional hub in Mexico City to better serve its Spanish-speaking users.
“It’s encouraging to see people throughout the YouVersion Community, in every region of the world, engage with the Bible at such high levels,” Gruenewald noted, highlighting shared struggles and the universal need for spiritual guidance.
YouVersion, an initiative of Life.Church, launched in 2008 and has achieved over 875 million downloads globally. Previously, the most engaged verse was Isaiah 41:10, which dominated user interest in 2023, 2022, 2020, and 2018. The verse offers reassurance: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
