Presbyterian Minister’s Expulsion Stirs Debate Over Doctrine and Racism
The Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America has recently made headlines after one of its ministers, Rev. Samuel Ketcham, was excommunicated. This small conservative denomination, consisting of approximately 7,000 members, faced controversy due to Ketcham’s advocacy of kinism, a doctrine promoting racial segregation.
Following an ecclesiastical trial, the Presbytery of the Alleghenies determined that Ketcham, aged 42, had breached several commandments. According to Presbyterian church-watcher Eli McGowan, Ketcham was found guilty of violating the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 9th commandments by endorsing what is described as the “false teaching of kinism/race realism.” He was also charged with joining a “false church” initiated by Michael Spangler.
Despite the church’s decision, Ketcham remains steadfast, arguing that his beliefs are rooted in biblical teachings. He accuses the church of ignoring “white replacement” as part of “God’s judgment upon His church and the west,” and in a post on X, he asserted, “You men (like so many in today’s churches) refuse to address the greatest and most obvious sign of God’s judgment upon His church and the west — mass immigration of foreigners and the amalgamation and replacement of Whites.”
In defense of Ketcham, Michael Spangler, who departed from the denomination to establish the Piedmont Presbyterian Church in North Carolina, criticized the excommunication. In a statement on X, Spangler maintained, “We the Session of Piedmont Presbyterian Church, having closely examined and labored together with Rev. Ketcham, declare that his doctrine is sound, and in accord with Scripture, reason, and experience.”
The charges against Ketcham include numerous comments made in articles on platforms like Substack. In these writings, Ketcham uses scripture to support his views on white superiority and criticizes anti-white racism in America. He frequently references Jeremy Carl’s book, The Unprotected Class: How Anti-White Racism Is Tearing America Apart, written by a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute and former deputy assistant secretary during President Donald Trump’s administration.
In a past article titled “Race and Racism“, Ketcham argued, “Immigration serves to divide and destroy a common culture that all stable nations need to succeed.” He further elaborated in another article, “Race and Noah“, claiming, “The White man has demonstrated a natural superiority over the other races ever since Alexander the Great, and that dominance does not seem to be fading.”
