Secret Service Involved in Shooting Incident Near White House

In the early hours of Sunday morning, an armed confrontation involving a man with a firearm led to a shooting near the White House, as reported by the U.S. Secret Service. The man, identified as having traveled from Indiana, was initially flagged by local authorities as a potential suicide risk, prompting the Secret Service to be on alert.

The confrontation occurred after Secret Service officers discovered the man’s vehicle parked near 17th and F Streets NW, Washington, D.C. The officers encountered the man on foot, leading to a situation where he brandished a firearm, resulting in shots being fired by the Secret Service personnel.

Following the incident, the individual was taken to a nearby hospital. Details about his condition remain undisclosed, but it has been confirmed that no Secret Service officers were injured during the event. President Donald Trump was reportedly in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, at the time of the shooting.

Investigations are currently underway, spearheaded by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team. This division routinely examines all officer-involved shootings within the District of Columbia.

Official Statement from the Secret Service

“On Sunday March 9th, an adult male was shot by U.S. Secret Service personnel following an armed confrontation with law enforcement in Washington DC.

Earlier on Saturday, local police shared information about a suicidal individual who may be traveling to Washington DC from Indiana. Around midnight, members of the Secret Service encountered the individual’s parked vehicle near 17th and F Streets, NW. They also saw an individual on foot matching the description nearby.

As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital and his condition is unknown. There were no reported injuries to Secret Service personnel.

The incident is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer involved shootings in the District of Columbia.”
