As students across the nation participate in NPR’s Student Podcast Challenge, a remarkable variety of stories emerge. These range from investigative pieces to intimate family interviews, and this year’s entries have not disappointed. Among them, an outstanding contribution from 11-year-old Ryan Betts-Ng stands out, capturing the attention of many.
Ryan, a sixth grader from Redwood Day School in Oakland, California, has teamed up with his younger brother, Marshall, to create a podcast dedicated to their fascination with Bigfoot. Titled Monster Madness, the podcast enchants listeners with tales of mythical creatures and their origins.
The Betts-Ng brothers infused their podcast with originality through unique sound effects and a spirited narrative. Their enthusiasm and humor shone through, making the podcast a delightful experience for all who listened. According to the judges, the podcast is both charming and engaging.
Listeners are encouraged to explore Monster Madness, one of the middle school finalists in the 2025 NPR Student Podcast Challenge, to experience the creativity and storytelling prowess of these young talents.
