The educator has faced significant personal losses throughout his life. His father passed away when Jeff was only eight years old, and he recently lost his mother to cancer. These losses have been particularly difficult during certain times of the year when memories resurface.

Rather than waiting until the traditional Teacher Appreciation Week in May, the students decided to take immediate action. They collected money from their own pockets and planned a surprise for their beloved teacher.
