The remarkable chain of events has both individuals convinced that divine providence orchestrated their meeting on June 30.
Seventeen-year-old Johnson Thompson arrived at his family’s workshop in Tuscumbia well before his usual start time after struggling to sleep following a lawn mower accident that had injured him a week earlier. Around 5 a.m., he observed a vehicle pulling over slowly across the street from where he was working.
A dangerous situation unfolds
Fannie Garner, 76, exited her car and appeared disoriented and unsteady on her feet. The elderly woman had driven between 15 and 20 miles from Cherokee, yet she had no memory of the journey due to an intense headache that was affecting her cognitive function.
When Thompson approached to check on her well-being, Garner asked him for directions to the closest emergency room. So I don’t think it was a coincidence at all. I think the Lord, he protected me during that lawnmower incident, so he used me to help Miss Garner.”
