Travis Weber Urges Unity at Ibero-American Congress for Life and Family

Travis Weber calls for spiritual unity, political action

In a world wrestling with moral and cultural upheaval, Travis Weber, vice president of policy and government affairs at the Family Research Council (FRC), made a compelling call for the urgent restoration of “God’s design for the family and human dignity.” This plea was delivered during the Ibero-American Congress for Life and Family in Montevideo, Uruguay, where Weber highlighted the necessity of aligning Christian organizations with fundamental biblical principles.

The Family Research Council, a Washington, D.C.-based Christian organization, has been at the forefront of promoting faith, family, and freedom in American public life for over four decades. Under Weber’s leadership, the FRC team actively engages with federal policies from a biblical standpoint and collaborates with Latin American leaders to fortify a unified pro-life and pro-family stance.

Addressing the Congress, Weber shared a heartfelt message from U.S. Christians, attributing their involvement not to strategic motives but to divine inspiration. “We are not looking for connections, it was the Lord who put this in my heart when José González (advisor to the Congress for Life and Family) came to our office and spoke to us about the cry of Latin America,” he expressed.

Unity in Biblical Purpose

Weber emphasized that true cooperation among Christian organizations should be anchored in clear, biblically-based objectives. He referenced Genesis 1 and 2, underscoring the divine creation of man and woman, the institution of marriage, and the family structure. “These foundations are under attack like never before in history. But we must affirm that the Word of God is the eternal, perfect and sufficient truth,” Weber asserted.

Weber further cautioned against relying solely on human strategies for Christian activism, advocating instead for dependence on the Holy Spirit’s power: “If we work from our own strength, we will not succeed. We want pro-life laws and the end of gender ideology, but above all we want to see the advancement of the Kingdom of God,” he emphasized.

Spiritual Healing and Relationship with the Father

Highlighting the importance of spiritual and emotional well-being, Weber urged Christian leaders to nurture their relationship with God to influence others effectively. “Before we talk about healthy family relationships, we need to be healthy in our relationship with our heavenly Father. Only from there will we be able to influence coherently,” he stated.

Weber shared a personal testimony of spiritual renewal, explaining how it deepened his reliance on the Holy Spirit, saying, “I was already a Christian, I was already working for the family, but the Lord took me to another level of communion. It transformed me and that affected my whole life.”

He emphasized that this internal health should be evident in the legacy passed to future generations: “We can’t just pass on our customs or ways to them. We must pass on God’s vision to them, not our incomplete versions of it,” he cautioned.

Restoration, Government, and Public Witness

Weber’s message also highlighted the need for family restoration to permeate all societal levels, including government. “The world needs this restoration. Many are looking for answers, but they are in darkness. Our proclamation must be comprehensive: Jesus saves, but He also restores, transforms, and establishes His Kingdom in all areas of life,” he declared.

He outlined three pillars essential for contemporary Christian action: generational transfer, unity, and spiritual healing. “Only with restored hearts can we impact society from the truth of the Gospel. We need to live what we preach to be an authentic witness at all levels,” Weber concluded.

Weber was among the international speakers at the Congress in Montevideo, which unites political, social, and religious leaders from across Ibero-America to develop a unified agenda supporting life, family, religious freedom, and human dignity.
