Mike Huckabee Named as Future U.S. Ambassador to Israel by Trump
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In a recent announcement, former President Donald Trump revealed plans to appoint Mike Huckabee, the past governor of Arkansas, as the United States ambassador to Israel. Huckabee is set to begin this role on January 20, 2025, coinciding with the start of Trump’s anticipated second administration.
Trump praised Huckabee, stating, “I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected former Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, has been nominated to be The United States Ambassador to Israel.” He further emphasized Huckabee’s dedication, expressing confidence that Huckabee will “work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East!”
Mike Huckabee, who previously served as a Southern Baptist pastor, has been a vocal advocate for Israel, particularly during recent conflicts involving Hamas. His support is evident through his involvement with organizations like the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and his leadership of various Christian tours to the region.
In a Jewish News Syndicate interview earlier this year, Huckabee criticized Hamas’ actions as “not just criminal, but evil.” He elaborated, “This is not a political, sociological, economic battle. This is a spiritual battle. This is as clear a definition between good and evil as we have seen in our lifetime and one of the most profound in all of history.”
Huckabee has been a strong opponent of a cease-fire with Hamas, drawing historical parallels. “This is like trying to negotiate with the Nazis in World War II. You just don’t,” he stated in an interview with NewsNation. “You beat them. You defeat them. You eradicate them.”
Huckabee’s political career includes two bids for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and 2016, during which he focused heavily on social issues. In his 2016 campaign announcement, he highlighted concerns about religious freedom and abortion, stating, “We witnessed the slaughter of over 55 million babies in the name of choice, and we are now threatening the foundation of religious liberty by criminalizing Christianity and demanding that we abandon biblical principles of natural marriage.”
In addition to his political endeavors, Huckabee launched a television show on the Trinity Broadcasting Network in 2017. He expressed his desire for the show to foster civil discourse, saying, “I want people to help me understand, not so much the ‘what’ of their belief system; tell me the ‘why.’ How’d you get there? What was it that led you to the conclusion? Whether it’s healthcare or a tax policy, tell me how that makes the country better and why you believe it does.”
Before his time in politics, Huckabee was deeply involved in the religious community as a pastor in Arkansas and served as president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention from 1989 to 1991. He is an alumnus of Ouachita Baptist University.
