Trump Considers U.S. Role in Israel-Iran Conflict After G7 Return

Returning unexpectedly from the G7 Summit to Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump convened a National Security meeting to discuss the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. The meeting aimed to evaluate potential U.S. involvement in military actions against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

On Tuesday evening, Trump amplified speculation about a possible U.S. role in the conflict by sharing a message of support from U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee. This development has fueled discussions around a joint military operation with Israel targeting Iran’s fortified nuclear sites, like Fordow, which require specialized munitions not currently in Israel’s arsenal.

In a tweet shared by the White House, Trump quoted Huckabee, calling him a “Pastor, Politician, Ambassador, and Great Person.”

Despite Trump’s warning that the U.S. would respond if Iran targets American forces, Israel’s recent military successes have led analysts to reassess the risks of U.S. intervention. Trump clarified his stance upon returning to the U.S., stating, “I’m not looking for a ceasefire, we’re looking at better than a ceasefire, an end, a real end, not a ceasefire.” He emphasized his reluctance to negotiate further, expressing frustration over Iran’s failure to finalize a deal.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump issued a veiled threat to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stating, “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there — We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.” He reiterated that U.S. personnel should not be targeted.

The American president further declared in a post, “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” and claimed that the U.S. has “complete and total control of the skies over Iran,” a nod to Israel’s use of American military systems. This assertion followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comment that the Israeli Air Force had “paved a highway to Tehran.”

Amidst these developments, Israeli Foreign Policy expert, Prof. Amnon Aran, told the BBC that Trump’s rhetoric signals a shift towards potential U.S. involvement in the Israeli military campaign. “All the proclamations and statements by President Trump are reflecting this gradual shift towards a greater inclination to intervene,” Aran said, noting the difficulty in reversing such rhetoric.

The backdrop to these statements includes an increased U.S. military presence in the Middle East, featuring units capable of executing targeted strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. This includes refueling planes, strategic bombers, and naval aircraft carriers positioned to prevent Iranian aggression against U.S. interests.

Earlier, Trump shared a text from Huckabee, who praised Trump as “the most consequential President in a century — maybe ever.” Huckabee referenced an assassination attempt on Trump in 2024, allegedly linked to Iran, and emphasized the gravity of the decisions Trump faces.

Huckabee expressed his loyalty, stating, “I will not abandon this post,” and underscored the unique position Trump holds, likening it to Truman’s in 1945. He encouraged Trump to heed divine guidance, asserting that the moment had chosen Trump, not the other way around.
