U.S. Justice Department Forms Task Force to Tackle Hamas and its Supporters

In a decisive move against terrorism and antisemitism, the U.S. Justice Department, spearheaded by Attorney General Pam Bondi, alongside FBI Director Kash Patel, has initiated a dedicated task force to address the recent attacks by Hamas on Israel and related activities within the United States.

This task force, known as “Joint Task Force October 7” or JTF 10-7, is set to pursue legal actions against Hamas leaders, investigate civil rights violations, and crack down on antisemitic acts in America. The initiative follows previous actions announced by the former Biden administration last September, which included charges against prominent Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

JTF 10-7’s mission is to seek justice against those directly responsible for the October 7 attack, including the arrest and extradition of senior figures like Ali Baraka and Khaled Meshaal, as reported by The Jerusalem Post.

“The barbaric Hamas terrorists will not win — and there will be consequences,” Bondi stated, emphasizing the task force’s commitment to holding perpetrators accountable.

The task force’s comprehensive strategy includes investigating acts of terrorism, antisemitic civil rights violations, and other federal offenses linked to Hamas supporters in the U.S. This effort extends to college campuses and financial networks funding the group.

Moreover, JTF 10-7 will integrate professionals to provide aid to victims of the attack and work towards securing the release of hostages.

Agents from the FBI will predominantly staff JTF 10-7, with legal and supervisory personnel coming from the Justice Department. Collaboration with Israeli authorities is also a key component, involving coordination with Israel’s National Bureau for Counter-Terror Financing.

This initiative has emerged amid President Donald Trump’s stern warning to Hamas to release hostages and his focus on addressing antisemitism on university campuses.

FBI Director Kash Patel underscored the task force’s significance as a “collaborative initiative between agencies” aimed at fulfilling essential counterterrorism objectives.

Leadership of the task force will comprise a senior counterterrorism prosecutor, a high-ranking FBI special agent, and an intelligence analyst, under the guidance of the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, as detailed in a report by Axios.
