Cervantes announced her resignation, explaining the conflict she felt with the current direction of the school system. “I don’t know if there’s a place for me in the school system right now as it stands and as it’s in the direction that it’s been heading,” she said, marking what she described as her “very last day.”
According to Cervantes, the law infringes upon her students’ rights, imposing religious values in a setting that should remain neutral. “My religion and my spiritual choices are my choices, and everybody else should have the freedom to make their choices without having something else imposed on them,” she asserted.
