In a significant move, President Donald Trump has enacted a new law mandating the release of files pertaining to the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. This decision follows a period of resistance from the president and senior Republican leaders, who eventually yielded to mounting political pressure. The law, signed on Wednesday, obligates the Department of Justice to unveil all documents concerning Epstein, particularly those related to his 2019 death in federal custody.
The legislation stipulates that these files should be made public within a 30-day timeframe, albeit with certain redactions to protect the integrity of ongoing investigations. President Trump, who previously had a friendship with Epstein, has stated that he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal activities and had severed all connections with him years prior.
