Amid the bustling backdrop of early voting in Texas, former President Donald Trump has made a significant move by endorsing a candidate in the Republican primary for a newly redefined congressional district. This support is poised to impact the race, providing a notable advantage to one contender over the others.
The Impact of Trump’s Endorsement
In the race for Texas’ 32nd Congressional District, Trump has thrown his weight behind Jace Yarbrough, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. The endorsement is expected to elevate Yarbrough’s profile, particularly as it bypasses Ryan Binkley, a fellow Republican candidate, pastor, and businessman who had previously run against Trump in the 2024 GOP presidential primaries.
The field for the March 3 primary is crowded, with seven other Republican hopefuls vying for the seat. These include James Ussery, Darrell Day, Paul Bondar, Gordon Heslop, Monty Montanez, Abteen Vaziri, and Aimee Carrasco. The district, redrawn in 2025, has shifted from a Democratic stronghold to a Republican-leaning area, encompassing parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and extending into several eastern counties.
Yarbrough’s Campaign and Background
Jace Yarbrough, recognized by Trump as an “America First Patriot,” is campaigning on a platform that emphasizes job creation, tax reduction, and American energy independence. His military background and opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate are key elements of his campaign narrative, as showcased on his campaign website. Previously, Yarbrough ran unsuccessfully for the Texas Senate District 30 in 2024.
Ryan Binkley’s Position
Ryan Binkley, who has received endorsements from noted Evangelical leaders, remains a prominent figure in the race. As the founder and senior pastor of Create Church, and CEO of the Generational Group, his entry into the congressional race was marked by a significant event in September. Despite his earlier presidential attempt in Nevada, where he garnered 381 votes against Trump, Binkley stepped down and supported Trump thereafter.
The Christian Post has reached out to both Binkley and Yarbrough for comments and will provide updates upon receiving any responses.
Early Voting and Future Endorsements
Early voting commenced in Texas on Tuesday, with the primary fast approaching on March 3. While Trump has made his position clear regarding the 32nd District, his stance remains undecided in the Republican Senate primary. This race features incumbent Sen. John Cornyn against challengers Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt, all closely aligned with Trump.
During a conversation with reporters on Air Force One, Trump remarked that the Senate race still has “a ways to go,” according to The Hill.
