The loss of a child is an unimaginable tragedy, and for Pastor Greg Locke of Global Vision Bible Church in Lebanon, Tennessee, that heartbreak became a reality when he announced the death of his son, Evan Roberts Locke, at the age of 20.
The devastating news was shared by Locke on his social media just hours after learning that Evan had passed away due to a drug overdose.
“Today, words fail us,” Locke expressed. “It’s been a long, hard battle the last few years. In times like this, the sacrifices and the struggles don’t even matter. A few hours ago we received the most earth-shattering news that our 20-year-old son, Evan Roberts Locke, could not be revived after his heart stopped due to an overdose,” he continued.
Locke acknowledged the public nature of his son’s struggles, emphasizing that Evan’s challenges served as both a warning to others and a testament to the sustaining grace of Jesus. He requested privacy for the family, noting Evan’s five grieving siblings and numerous others who supported him.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of condolences from the community, including support from notable Evangelicals. Missionary and activist Sean Feucht expressed his sorrow on X, saying, “Brother I am so so sorry and my heart and prayers are with your family.”
Revivalist and evangelist Stan Lovins II also shared his support on Facebook, writing, “Absolutely heartbreaking!!! Greg Locke, I’m praying for Holy Ghost Comfort, Strength and Supernatural Healing for you, your Family and everyone of us who were blessed to know Evan in JESUS Mighty Name!!!! Much love from our Family to each of you!!!”
