Recent developments hint at a potential reconciliation between President Donald Trump and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, following a past rift involving allegations related to Jeffrey Epstein’s files. Their relationship, once strained by public disputes, shows signs of recovery as both figures have recently interacted at a memorial event.

During a conversation with reporters on Air Force One en route to Asia, Trump mentioned an encounter with Musk at a memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Glendale, Arizona. “During Charlie’s beautiful tribute, Elon came over,” Trump recounted. “It’s good with Elon. I like Elon; I’ve always liked Elon. Elon’s good.”

The interaction at the memorial seems to have softened the tension, though Trump admitted that their communication is sporadic. “On and off, a little bit, very little; nothing much,” he said, acknowledging Musk’s talents. “He’s a nice guy and he’s a very capable guy. I’ve always liked him.”

Reflecting on Musk’s prior controversial actions, Trump commented, “[Musk] had a bad spell, he had a bad period, he had a bad moment. It was a stupid moment in his life, very stupid. I’m sure he’d tell you that.” Despite these issues, Trump expressed a continued fondness for Musk, stating, “I like Elon and I suspect I’ll always like him.”

Musk played a significant role during Trump’s 2024 campaign by donating nearly $300 million to Republican efforts and delivering a key address at a rally in Madison Square Garden. He also worked closely with Trump at the White House leading the Department of Governance Efficiency (DOGE) to reduce government spending.

Their relationship soured when Musk opposed Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” in May, leading to public disputes. Musk’s deleted post on X in June, accusing Trump of withholding Epstein files for personal reasons, further fueled the discord.

Charlie Kirk, before his assassination, hoped for a renewal of their alliance, stating on his podcast, “Both of these men deserve great credit for their contributions to help save civilization […] I actually think they are going to reconcile at some point because, deep down, I would like to believe they both want the same thing.”

In his eulogy for Kirk, Trump admired Kirk’s forgiving nature, sharing a photo from the memorial where he and Musk shook hands. Musk captioned the viral image, “For Charlie,” signaling a possible mending of fences.
