Evangelist Urges Genuine Gospel Sharing in Challenging Spaces

In the vibrant city of Seoul, South Korea, evangelist Ben Jack emphasized the importance of sharing the true Gospel without compromise, even in the most challenging environments. As he addressed the World Evangelical Alliance’s 14th General Assembly, Jack stressed the need for the Church to venture into “very dark places” while maintaining the integrity of Jesus Christ’s message.

Ben Jack, who has spent 26 years as an evangelist and works with The Message Trust in the U.K., shared his unique journey from being a DJ to becoming a missionary in nightclubs and bars. His goal was to reach those seeking an escape from their weekly struggles, offering them the ultimate reality in Jesus Christ instead.

His experience in these environments taught him valuable lessons about evangelism. The first, he stated, is the necessity for Christians to have a deep understanding of their faith. “If we don’t know the Gospel deeply, richly and above everything else, when we go into the world to engage culturally, it is culture that will evangelize us, rather than we who will evangelize into the culture,” he explained.

Jack warned against altering the Gospel in attempts to reach others, reminding the assembly that “anything less than the Gospel is not what the world needs to hear.” He highlighted the danger of either adding to or removing elements from the Gospel, as warned in Galatians, which can lead to a diluted message.

He challenged Christians to have confidence in the sufficiency of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, asserting, “The world has a billion and one gospels it thinks will save them, but there is only one true Gospel — the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Furthermore, Jack underscored the importance of balancing tradition with outreach efforts. While tradition provides a foundation, he emphasized that it should not hinder believers from entering unconventional spaces to spread the Gospel.

He declared, “If we’re going to reach the world with the Good News by 2033, we need to do two really important things: we need to make sure that the Gospel is the thing we commit to above all else — that we know it, we live it, we breathe it and give glory to the One whom it is all about.”

The General Assembly, which took place from Oct. 27-31, brought together 850 Christian leaders from 124 nations under the theme of “The Gospel for Everyone by 2033.”
