When Paul Wood of Lodi, California started experiencing severe headaches and difficulty walking in early 2018, he had no idea his medical journey would take an unexpected turn that would leave doctors searching for answers. What began as alarming symptoms that pointed to a potentially life-threatening brain tumor ended in a way that medical professionals struggled to explain.
Wood’s symptoms were serious enough that he required assistance just to move through his home. “I had massive headaches, I couldn’t walk down the hallway without holding on to the walls,” he recalled.
Medical tests reveal troubling findings
After consulting with his physician, Wood was referred to a neurosurgeon at UC San Francisco. Medical professionals initially suspected he was suffering from a brain bleed, but subsequent scanning revealed something different—indicators of a brain tumor. The discovery set the stage for what appeared to be a necessary surgical intervention.
Faith becomes the focus
Rather than accepting the diagnosis without question, Wood chose to lean heavily on his religious beliefs and sought support from his church community. As an active participant at Gravity Church, he became the recipient of widespread prayers and support from other members of the congregation.
Pastor Jason McEachron of Gravity Church observed Wood’s steadfast trust during this challenging period. “He just kept saying, ‘no matter what happens to me, I’m going to be okay. I trust God,'” McEachron noted.
An unexplained medical development
Just one day before Wood’s scheduled surgery, medical staff made a startling discovery during pre-operative scans—the suspected tumor had disappeared completely. The finding left the medical team without a clear explanation for what had occurred.
Dr. Richard Yee acknowledged the limits of medical understanding in Wood’s case. “We do tests and we have medical technology and we try to come up with some conclusion. We’re like detectives – [but] sometimes things happen that we can’t explain,” Dr. Yee said.
The planned surgical procedure was canceled, and Wood attributed the outcome to divine intervention. “It’s a miracle and that is the way God planned it,” he stated.
