An Investigation Launched into Allegations Against Michael Brown

Amid growing controversy, a prominent Christian author and media figure faces allegations of misconduct. Michael Brown, known for his engaging radio broadcasts and books, is under investigation after serious accusations surfaced.

Firefly, a firm recognized for its credibility and respected by advocacy groups, has been appointed to investigate the sexual misconduct allegations against Brown, as per the announcement by the board of The Line of Fire, Brown’s radio program. The board emphasized, “Because of their stellar reputation, coupled with the respect that they’ve received from the advocacy community, we are thankful that they have adjusted their schedule to jump into this case immediately.” For further details, visit their statement.

In an effort to ensure transparency, the board stated that Firefly will manage all public communications regarding the investigation until it is concluded, with plans to release the report upon its completion.

To maintain accountability, a dedicated team has been established, comprising external elders and leaders that will maintain consistent communication with Brown. This team includes a trauma-informed counselor, although the members have opted to remain anonymous to focus on their responsibilities.

The allegations, initially reported by The Roys Report, involve a woman named “Erin,” who worked with Brown from the age of 18 to 21 at his FIRE School of Ministry. Erin regarded Brown as a paternal figure and even addressed him as “dad.” She has accused Brown of inappropriate behavior, including instances where he allegedly slapped her buttocks and kissed her on the lips, leading her to leave her position.

In response, Brown has denied any sexually inappropriate behavior, acknowledging only a “lack of judgment” in his interactions with Erin. Brown clarified, “Nancy and I did have a relationship with the woman in question and considered her to be like a family member, and she conducted herself as one who viewed our relationship the same way. But she was not a family member, and aspects of my interaction with her, although totally non-sexual in every way, reflected a definite lack of judgment on my part.” More details are available in a statement provided to The Christian Post.

Additional allegations were brought to light by TRR concerning a man named “Ray,” who alleged an inappropriate emotional relationship between Brown and Ray’s late wife in the early 2000s. Brown admitted to developing an “emotional, not a physical, tie with” Ray’s wife, but chose not to disclose it publicly at the time, as the involved parties did not classify it as adultery.

Addressing Erin’s claims, Brown issued an apology, saying, “Please forgive me for my actions, which caused you so much pain. Had I more clearly understood the result of those actions in 2002, I would have responded very differently. Again, from the heart, I ask you to forgive me. I am truly and deeply sorry.”

Initially, The Line of Fire hired a different law firm to spearhead the investigation; however, they reconsidered after concerns were raised about the firm’s previous defense of large corporations and individuals accused of sexual misconduct. The board admitted a “misstep” in their initial selection, explaining, “Although we had no idea of that, we totally understand that the optics of that decision could appear that we hired a firm that would exonerate Michael.” They stressed that Brown has removed himself from board decisions during this process.
