The Life and Legacy of Robert Wolgemuth: A Christian Publishing Giant Remembered

Renowned Christian author and publisher Robert Wolgemuth, who influenced millions over a career spanning more than four decades, has passed away at the age of 77. His widow, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, shared the news, reflecting on their final moments together as a cherished blessing.

In an emotional X post, Nancy revealed her husband had died, having previously indicated in another post that he was nearing the end of his journey. Nancy shared that Robert would always text “Safe” when he reached his destination, and now he has arrived at his ultimate destination. She expressed, “Robert is ‘safe.’ My ‘DH’ (dear husband) has arrived at his final destination. He is safely Home.”

As Robert’s final moments unfolded, family and close friends gathered, praying and singing hymns. Nancy, with loved ones by her side, played the song “Come to Jesus,” which coincided with Robert’s last breath. His brother remarked, “He just flew to Jesus!”

Reflecting on these moments, Nancy described them as “a sacred, glorious moment” and an “incredible gift from the Lord.” Despite her grief, she finds solace in her faith, believing that Robert is now more alive than ever, entering his eternal rest due to the “magnificent, redeeming grace and love of Christ.”

“Robert loved me in a way I had never before imagined possible,” Nancy wrote, celebrating their ten years together. As she looks to the future, she draws comfort from the promise of resurrection and transformation found in Philippians 3:21, as well as the song “Safely Home” by Steve Green, which speaks of sorrow today and joy tomorrow.

Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship also paid tribute to Wolgemuth in a Facebook post, remembering him as “a legend in Christian publishing.” Laurie highlighted Wolgemuth’s role in developing the New Believer’s Bible and mentioned his contributions to other works, including Laurie’s book Jesus Revolution.

Laurie shared a video clip of Robert discussing the anticipation of Heaven, where he quoted, “Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, the things that God has prepared for those who love Him.” Robert described death as a peaceful transition, akin to going to sleep with the expectation of a joyful awakening.

According to the Revive Our Hearts Ministry, Robert Wolgemuth founded Wolgemuth & Associates, later known as Wolgemuth & Wilson. He authored notable books such as Lies Men Believe, Gun Lap, Finish Line, and the notes for the Men’s Daily Bible. His works sold over 2 million copies, earning multiple accolades from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
